The fhsaa over reacted.  The punishment definitely does not fit the crime.  In fact, there should be no punishment.  It was not a malicious event that happened in front of the public, it was private among the team and the media happened to get a hold of it.  At what point, can the team do with what they want with their property? A day, a week, a month, a year? What about all of those trophies that are getting dust sitting in the back of the closet.  It sounds like the coach was teaching a life lesson and that is don’t let one thing define you as a person.  If it was done in front of the other team I can see how it would be disrespectful, but the player even said it was not malicious.  I think this Dr Dearing lacks character and leadership by handing this ridiculous punishment on this high school program and needs to rethink his stance because he is making the fhsaa look pretty silly.
